Local News Mammoth Ski Area’s earliest opening in a decade, October 21, was joined by a record-breaking snowfall of 82” for the month. This all spawned a procession of skiers and boarders to enjoy the early opening. As the snow began to fall so did the inventory of available properties. The predictable swing began with a low of 30-50 condos at the end of last winter and then peaked at about 220 this summer before starting its decline as winter arrived again.
Prices have continued to climb at about 30 percent per year, a march that started in 1997. There have been some price reductions recently but the reductions were merely the amount of the seller’s over-inflated wishful thinking.
Construction is booming in Mammoth with many new projects by Intrawest and other developers. Custom second homes are popping out of the ground in many prime locations and major developers are building or planning fractional and whole ownership condos and townhome including a project by Westin in the Village.
